9 Ideas to Make the Most of a Small Bathroom

9 Ideas to Make the Most of a Small Bathroom

One of the biggest challenges we deal with often is how to make the most out of a small space.  It’s one of the things that Dan Pauli does best!  He loves reconfiguring small bathrooms to maximize space!  Here are 9 ways to make your small bathroom feel much larger.

1. Choose Products that fit the Space

Choosing sinks, tubs and toilets that just don’t fit or are too big are sure fire ways to make a small bathroom feel even smaller.  Choose a round bowl toilet (which is usually smaller than an elongated bowl) or a wall-hung bowl (which is open to the floor underneath).

2.  Pick a Floating Vanity

Be sure to look at the designs created especially for small spaces including floating vanities which tend to make the floor plan feel bigger since it’s open underneath.

3.  Ditch the Bathtub

Of course a bathtub is a must for some folks – especially those with small children in the house – but if you can live without one, do it!  Instead, install a shower that better fits the room.  To get even more of an open feel, choose glass shower doors.  You’ll be amazed at how the space opens up without the opaque doors/walls in the way!

4. Install a Wall-Mount Faucet

If you’re short on counter space, mounting the faucet to the wall is a great way to reclaim some extra room.  The clean, uncluttered look will create a more open look and add more visual space.

5.  Add a Wall-Mounted Medicine Cabinet

We all have those little bottles that we use every day but don’t want to leave them on the counter 24/7.  Mounting a medicine cabinet into the wall is a great way to add some storage in an unobtrusive way.

6.  Expand Your Storage with Hooks

Is your bathroom so small that even adding a towel rack will be obtrusive?  Hooks are a great alternative!  Install one hook for each person that uses the bathroom to hang towels, clothes, bathrobes or more!

7.  Get Creative with Your Linen Storage

If you don’t have a closet specifically for linens, consider using a hallway closet, armoire or chest.  If you prefer to keep some linens in the bathroom, try floating shelves or a convert a nook into a built in for regularly used items.

8.  Add an Extra Mirror

Mirrors are great ways to create the illusion of a larger space.  The mirror will add more reflected light into the room and make it seem bigger especially when the room has heavy decor or floral wallpaper.

9.  Declutter!

Get rid of all the excess items that don’t need to be in the room.  Extra bottles, tattered towels and unused products should be removed and everything that’s left should be stored in an in-shower organizer or under the sink.
